History

The origins of the Club date firmly in 1897, and the early 1900’s saw the formation of men’s, women’s and mixed hockey as well as Cumberland County Clubs.

Twice the World Wars caused cessation of hockey with long after effects. Resumption of playing and club organisation after the 1939-45 conflict was delayed locally until the late 1950’s.

Spadeadam H.C. formed the basis of the re-formation of Carlisle Men’s H.C. in 1972, playing both friendlies and in the Cumbrian league & North East League, maintaining up to three teams until recent years when the North West league began.

Carlisle Men's Hockey Club and Carlisle Ladies Hockey Club merged to form Carlisle Hockey Club on 24 June 2008.
