Carlisle’s visit to Wigton began under the cosh as they were forced back by the home side’s more assertive and direct style of play. It took only 5 minutes for Wigton to take the lead.

Following this setback the Carlisle team settled with Connie Whiteford dominant at the back ably assisted by Lily Dunning and Evie Rook.

The introduction of Judith Graham added further steel to the visitors and Captain Anna Thompson worked hard to drive Carlisle forward, enabling Thalia Kasiera and Minnie Jackson occasionally to take the mickey out of the Wigton defence . Try as they might they were unable to convert chances.

So the score remained 0-1 at half time. After the interval Carlisle was caught cold when a loose ball was seized upon and fired high into the city sides net to increase Wigton’s lead.

Undeterred Carlisle proceeded to stroke the ball around with Maisie Askew linking well with Bella Tiffin-Lowe but they could not produce sufficient penetration to unsettle the Wigton rearguard.

Towards the end of the game Wigton added a third goal to make the final score 0-3.

Congratulations to our Player of the Match this week, Connie Whiteford, and thank you to our Player of the Match sponsor NFU Mutual, Carlisle.

A huge thank you to our team sponsor also, The Fryery, for supporting us this season.
