Carlisle 2s welcomed Newcastle 4s to a blustery home fixture that ended in a hard-fought 2–2 draw, a fair result after an entertaining and occasionally chaotic contest.

Carlisle started brightly, moving the ball well and putting Newcastle under early pressure. The breakthrough came when Rob Hitch finished confidently to put the hosts ahead, rewarding a spell of sustained possession. Newcastle responded well, however, and capitalised on a defensive lapse to level the scores before half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides trading chances and the midfield battle becoming increasingly physical. Carlisle regained the lead through Gary, who reacted quickest in the circle to tuck the ball away and spark hopes of all three points. Unfortunately, Newcastle once again had an answer, pulling level with a well-worked goal from a penalty corner to make it 2–2.

Despite late pressure from Carlisle, the winner never came, and the points were shared.

Man of the Match went to new boy Matty, who put in an outstanding performance on debut, showing composure, work rate and no small amount of grit throughout. DoD was awarded to Bless, whose bold tactical innovation involved deciding he would simply run on the short corner whistle, much to the surprise of everyone on the pitch — including the umpire.

All in all, a solid performance from Carlisle 2s, plenty of positives to take, and a result that keeps momentum ticking along nicely.
