Carlisle 2s picked up their first win of the season with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Durham City 4s.
The hosts started brightly and were rewarded with a dominant first-half display. Carlisle moved the ball well, pressed high and created a number of chances, eventually taking a deserved lead through G, who finished confidently after sustained pressure from the home side.
Carlisle continued to control proceedings and doubled their advantage before the break through Joe W. Picking up the ball deep in Durham territory, Joe embarked on a determined run through the defence before rounding the goalkeeper. Just as the opportunity appeared to have gone, he lost his footing and fell to the turf, but somehow managed to get a shot away from the ground and direct it into the net. It was a goal that perfectly reflected his work rate and determination throughout the match.
The hosts went into half-time with a deserved 2-0 lead, having restricted Durham to very few clear opportunities while looking dangerous every time they attacked.
Durham City improved after the restart and enjoyed more possession, but Carlisle remained organised defensively and continued to threaten on the counter-attack. The game was put beyond doubt when G grabbed his second goal of the afternoon, finishing neatly to make it 3-0 and secure all three points for the home side.
There were excellent contributions across the pitch, particularly from the club's younger players. Gil, Richard, James and Robbie all impressed with mature performances, showing composure, energy and commitment throughout the game and playing an important role in Carlisle's first victory of the campaign.
