Liverpool University away with the bare 11

The team's positive mental attitude shone through on a bleak day

Carlisle knew they had a challenge ahead of them facing a team who are yet to suffer a defeat, with only 11 players.
The game started at a fast competitive pace with Liverpool on the attack. Sophie Parker showed her class making some phenomenal saves throughout the whole game which were quickly converted to some strong attacking play down the right wing through Kath Illidge, Nicky Proctor and Holly Milbourn. Unfortunately Liverpool were first to convert after many opportunities.
Despite going 1-0 down we kept our heads up and quickly caught Liverpool with some fast attacking play coming through from Alice Murray in the middle, progressing the ball forward to Jess Wharton and Jenny Wright. A short coroner was won and a great straight strike from Holly Milbourn made the game equal.
Our defence held their own after Liverpool won several consecutive short corners but they struggled to convert any with Rachael Smith doing some cracking stops on the line. Eventually the pressure paid off and they managed to convert one and went 2-1 up at half time.
After a well needed breather Carlisle re set for the second half. Liverpool were sharp and caught us off guard in the first two minutes and made it 3-1.
But we bounced back and put plenty of pressure on with some great transfers across the back through Fran Schofield, Rachael Smith and Kath Illidge.
With a short corner won we dug deep to try and convert but failed until Bex Illidge picked up a re bound ball and placed it perfectly past the keeper to make it 3-2 and earned herself man of the match for some great runs up the left wing and her cracking goal!
With 15 minutes left Liverpool bounced back but with a high work rate and effort from Hannah Pike in the middle they failed to get through to convert any more and we kept the pressure on with some skilful play throughout the pitch!
We were all glad to hear the final whistle and to finish 3-2 against such a high class team we were all so proud!!! A much improved performance since losing 5 - 0 at home earlier in the season demonstrates how the team is developing.
Biggest highlight of the day - Teas!
