Despite Kath and Debs being stressed at the beginning of the week to get a team together due to much unavailability, we were able to round up 12 players for our 2nd league match against Penrith 1s.
Positive vibes were felt pre-game during our warm up and team talk.
Carlisle started strong, with the defence preventing Penrith from making much progress down the pitch towards our goal. The ball now in our possession, defence were quick to get the ball up to the midfielders; Blyth, Minnie, Nic, Abbie and Evie who used quick sharp passes, working well together to get the ball up to Leah and Lucy, for a chance on goal.
Kath, held strong in centre switching the ball across quickly, putting into practice what we had been doing at training. Everyone working well together as a team, passing ball around and preventing Penrith from gaining possession for the most part.
Although Penrith managed to get five goals away, we kept our heads up. Jenny in goal showing great effort making some amazing saves and diving everywhere to stop many chances from Penrith going in, despite only 3hrs sleep.
During the second half Debs, Hannah and Lily held strong in defence, clearing the ball quickly out wide to midfield, allowing our first goal of season from Leah. A strike from Kath during a short corner gave us our second goal. Shortly afterwards a great ball through from Katie saw Leah scoring her second and the final goal of the match.
There was amazing play, effort and teamwork from everyone. Some great play from Lily, Evie, Abbie and Minnie who stepped up to 2s this week to give us a full team.
Overall was a good game despite losing 5-3. More improvement was seen this week and we keep getting stronger as a team.
Such a great effort by all resulted in a 5 way tie between Nic, Lily, Leah, Minnie and Blythe for player of the match.
